Q. Do the E-tec engines really go 3 years or 300 hours without any maintenance?
A. Yes, In our experience they have gone the distance but in our extreme use & saltwater environment we recommend not to go the full 3 years without looking at it. The 12-18 month basic service is recommended
Q. Do you have to use Evinrude E-tec oil to keep the warranty valid ?
A. No, The motors come from the factory set to run TCW 3 oil that can be found anywhere. However, we do recommend the use of XD-50 Evinrude oil because it's semi synthetic and reasonably priced. We keep an ample supply on hand and can even deliver it to your door.
Q. Should I repower my boat with a Evinrude or a Yamaha ?
A. It really depends on your boat, it's current motors & your application. Yamaha primarily offers 4 stroke engines and Evinrude has only 2 stroke engines. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. One thing for sure is that you won't lose with either one. Call me direct to discuss your specific application.
Q. Do the E-tec's smoke like my old 2 stroke ?
A. No, not at all... In fact, you will run to the transom regularly just to make sure your engines are on.
Q. Do the controls, gauges and propeller come with the engines ?
A. No, The engines comes in the box alone. The accessories are sold separately and vary by the installation. We can quickly evaluate and quote all the parts needed and the time it will take to install.
Q. How do you know what prop will be the best for my boat ?
A. Correctly Propping a boat is not an exact science... there is no substitute for experience! We have repowered hundreds of boats of varying sizes, styles and applications. We can predict proper prop size 90% of the time but sometimes we may be a little off for your application. So, when you repower at SeaPower we will always exchange the prop we install for another one.
Q. What is a SeaPower certified used motor ?
A. It is a used motor that has been inspected by our factory trained technicians then completely serviced and brought up to standard with all O.E.M parts. We touch up all the paint and provide all the factory steering connectors and mounting hardware. These are very reliable engines with a lot of good life left in them.
Q. How should I care for my engine when the boat is not being used much ?
A. The best thing you can do is to start the engine at least once a month and let in run for about 10 minutes. This will keep the fuel moving and keep the batteries charged.
Q. Will ethanol harm my engine and what can I do to combat it ?
A. Yamaha and Evinrude have built there engines to hold up to 10% which is the legal limit in Florida without any fuel system damage. Neither engine was designed to burn water which has been the biggest problem in the Marine enviroment and specifically in South Florida. We recommend changing and checking your water separator often. Both manufactures make great additives that will help condition the fuel and extend it's life for long periods. We do not endorse any product not made by a engine manufacture.
Q. Why should I bring in my engine to have SeaPower service it versus my neighbor who is a great car mechanic ?
A. We don't just change a few parts when we do a service. We do a very thorough inspection and replacement of several key items that ensure safe and reliable boating. Remember, there is no substitute for experience! We have thousands of services and repairs under our belt!!! We do not take shortcuts or jimmy rig repairs... there are no parts or screws left over...All repairs are done to factory specs or better!
